Seodaemun District launches NaePume pet-education academy in Seoul.

Seodaemun District in Seoul announced on the 13th that it will operate a pet-culture education program called NaePume Academy at the Seodaemun NaePume Center for residents and pet owners. The district framed the program as a way to foster a proper understanding of pets and promote responsible pet ownership.

The program lineup includes post-adoption education, seminars on dog and cat care, a Rainbow Group for pet-loss support, a one-day dog-walking class, an agility obstacle course experience, the NaePume culture class, and an after-hours program for office workers.

"Student program written in machine language for the w:IBM 650 by me in August 1961. It answers Exercises 6 and 7 on page 23 of Andree, Programming the IBM 650 Magnetic Drum Computer,[1] a popular introductory text.
Exercise 6 asks the student to write a program that reads a deck of punched cards, each of which have a decimal value, X, in the first ten columns and Y in the next ten. For each input card, the program should punch an output card with the values X, Y, 2X-Y, 2X2-XY, and 2X3-X2Y+X in the first 50 columns, ten columns each, with zeros in the rest. Problem 7 asks the student to modify the program to punch a 9 in column 80 if 2X3-X2Y+X is positive. The memory layout and use of SOAP nemonics follows examples given in the text. (I was studying on my own and never had an opportunity to run the program.)"--agr (talk) 15:27, 10 October 2023 (UTC))

Seasonal offerings are planned as well, with a summer “Dog Vacation” water-adaptation training and a winter “Dog Diet” weight-management program.

Seodaemun District Office Chief Lee Seong-heon said the academy aims to spread a mature pet culture and help create a city where people and animals live happily together. He added that the district will continue expanding pet-education programs.

The initiative reflects a broader urban trend of cities providing structured education, support groups, and activity-oriented classes for pet owners, a development watched by international audiences familiar with similar programs outside Korea.

For U.S. readers, the program matters in part because it highlights the growing market for pet services, welfare and adoption education, and community-based support that can influence consumer demand, cross-border trade in pet products, and potential collaboration on shared standards for responsible ownership.

Seoul’s Seodaemun is one of the capital’s 25 districts, and its local center program illustrates how municipal governments in dense urban areas are integrating pet welfare and owner education into city life.
