Korea Information Industry Association elects Yang Seung-wook as 20th president, prioritizes AI
The Korea Information Industry Association, known in Korean as 한국정보산업연합회 and abbreviated as 정산연, elected Yang Seung-wook as its 20th president at its 44th regular general meeting, held at EL Tower in Yangjae-dong, Seoul.
Yang Seung-wook is a veteran ICT executive who previously served as editor-in-chief and CEO of Electronics Times (전자신문) and as a standing auditor at Com2uS Holdings. His term as president will begin on April 1.
In remarks after the vote, Yang said he would “pursue practical projects that member companies and the industry can feel” and that the association would “become a completely new federation.”
The association has set AI Transformation (AI 전환) expansion as its core objective for this year, aiming to strengthen the competitiveness of the ICT sector. It plans to foster an AI ecosystem, identify and support key players, and create a business environment in which information and communications technology and software industries can grow amid the AI era.
The move highlights Korea’s emphasis on AI and digital transformation as a driver of industry, exports, and innovation. As a leading technology nation, Korea’s industry groups can influence foreign collaborations, supply chains, and technology standards that affect U.S. firms and investors seeking partnerships with Korean ICT companies.
The event took place at EL Tower, a well-known event venue in Seoul, marking a leadership transition for an association that represents member companies within Korea’s information technology sector.
For U.S. readers, the leadership change signals ongoing Korea-driven efforts to scale AI adoption in industry, with potential implications for technology partnerships, supply chains, and market access for American companies looking to collaborate with Korean ICT firms.
