South Korea PM to U.S.: investment bill and UN AI Hub talks

South Korea’s Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, who is visiting the United States, held a meeting with the U.S. Vice President on the afternoon of the 12th local time. The Korean prime minister used the session to highlight a new investment measure, noting that yesterday the Special Act on Investment in the United States passed the National Assembly’s plenary session.

The U.S. vice president welcomed the development and said the two countries should maintain close communication moving forward. The White House or Korean government indicated a shared intent to keep dialogue steady as talks progress.

Kim said that after his time in the United States, he would travel to Switzerland to meet with leaders of United Nations-related agencies to discuss cooperation on attracting a United Nations AI Hub.

The plan to pursue a UN AI Hub reflects Seoul’s broader effort to position Korea as a hub for artificial intelligence policy and collaboration. The UN AI Hub concept is a proposed international center to coordinate AI governance, ethics, and standards among member states.

For the United States, the engagement matters because stronger investment ties and collaboration on AI governance could influence cross-border technology cooperation, supply chains, and market access for American firms. The talks signal a shared interest in shaping AI policy and advancing digital-security cooperation between the two allies.
