Trump to Speak at Kentucky Rally Targeting Rep Massie Over Iran War Powers
The White House said former president Donald Trump will hold a public speech in Hebron, Kentucky, on May 11 local time, in what aides describe as a campaign-style address.
The target of his remarks is Rep. Thomas Massie, the Republican who represents Kentucky’s 4th congressional district and has publicly opposed U.S. military action against Iran.
Massie is known for backing a War Powers Resolution with Democrat Ro Khanna that would require congressional authorization before the United States engages in war with Iran.
Trump took to Truth Social to criticize Massie, saying the lawmaker will be remembered as the worst Republican in the long history of Congress, and drawing contrasts with other GOP figures who have criticized Trump’s policies.
The visit comes as Kentucky prepares for a May primary in which six House seats—plus one vacant Senate seat—are on the ballot, a backdrop that Trump allies see as an opportunity to rally voters around his Iran stance.
The episode highlights ongoing tensions within the Republican Party over foreign policy and the proper role of Congress in approving military action, topics that resonate beyond Kentucky as lawmakers weigh war powers and strategy toward Iran.
Massie has represented Kentucky’s 4th district since 2012, a region that includes parts of northern and central Kentucky and is generally considered solidly Republican.
